Löysin aarteen - I found a treasure

Teehuoneen talo uinuu vaan, mutta nyt löysin kirpparilta sinne aarteen, eli vanhan pistelemällä tehdyn käsilaukun, josta tuleekin ruusumatto rouvan olohuoneeseen. Tänne tullee aikamoinen ruusujen sota. Olen jo pitempään halunnut tehdä oikein oikein kukikkaan huoneen ja nyt alkaa näyttää, että tänne se tulee. Voi voi. Vähän huolestuttaa, mutta rouva vaikuttaa haltioituneelta arvokkaasta matostaan.

The teahouse is hibernating, but now I found a treasure, a petit point handbag that will be a carpet of this room full of roses. I've been wanting to make a room with way too many blooms quite some time and now it seems that this will be the place. Phew. This worries me a bit, but the lady of the house seems thrilled. 

Huovutusrintamalla valmistuu tämmöinen karvakasa, eli venäjänvinttikoirayritelmä. Vähän tuli tanakkarunkoinen tapaus, mutta jaksaapa juosta (vai onko niin, että just ei). Kuvakulma vähän vääristää.

Pikkutyyny - The little pillow

Aina välillä tulee tehtyä yöunien kustannuksella. Onko joku samalla tiellä toisinaan? Tyyny tuli, postimerkin kokoinen. Nyt nukkumaan...

Sometimes I make stuff compromising getting enough sleep. Anyone else on the same path sometimes? The pillow is about stamp-size and I'm off to bed (yawn).

Välityö tämäkin - Another side-project

Silloin tällöin minihommissa tulee semmoista, että ylittää jonkin oman rajansa ja minulle tämä öttiäinen on sellainen. Olen haaveillut mini-mini-kirjonnasta, mutta en ole jotenkin rohjennut ryhtyä, kun onhan se ihan hirvittävää hommaa. Tämän ötökän ohjeen löysin kesällä mökillä sisustuslehdestä ja se on poltellut siitä asti. Suunnittelin tekeväni isona, mattopohjalle, mutta otinkin sitten tämmöistä vähän pienempää verkkoa kokeiluun. Tämä on sopivan pieni ja yksinkertainen projekti ensimmäiseksi työksi. Yllätyin siitä, että pystyn tekemään tätä ilman suurennusta. Silmät pelittää vielä. Tästä tulee tyyny Teehuoneen rouvan makkariin. Ihana pieni kuoriaistyyny... hyrrrr, tämä hyrisee.

Once in a while making miniatures I cross boundaries, make stuff that I've thought I cannot make. This embroidery insect is one like that. I've wanted to try really small petit point for ages, but it's frightening. (I know people make much much smaller, but this is really small for me.) I found the pattern in the Summer in an interior design magazine (yes it's meant for real people) and wanted to make it ever since. I planned to use bigger base, like the one I use for carpets, but took the silk gauze instead. This is suitably small and simple project to begin with. I was surprised that I can make this without magnifier. This will be a pillow for the Teahouse lady's bedroom. Lovely little bug-pillow, I'm soooo pleased.

Melkein valmis - Almost there

Sängynpeitto on jo tarpeeksi pitkä, mutta leveyteen se kaipaa vielä pari riviä. Värit ovat tässä kuvassa hiukan terävät, mutta tämmöinen siitä tulee. Tähän taloon tulee muuten kissoja asumaan.

The bedspread is long enough now, but needs a couple of more rows to make it wide enough. The colours are slightly sharp in this photo, but you can see how the bed works with the chair. This house will have cats, by the way.


Makuuhuone on tämän kokoinen. Taakse tulee vielä kirjahylly ja yöpöytä, jolle tulee Cillan ihana kaniinilamppu, ooh. Sain selville, että Teehuoneen rouva on käsityöihmisiä. Hän myös ompelee paljon ja mielellään, kunhan saan koneen pölykerroksen pyyhkäistyä ja nauhan kuntoon.

The bedroom will be a bit like this. I'll add a bookshelf and a bedside table and there's going to be Cilla's gorgeous rabbit lamp on the table there. It's so pretty! I found out that the lady of the Teahouse also makes clothes. I just need to wipe the dust off the machine and fix the belt.


Rouvan olohuoneeseen hakeutuu nyt mallailuvaiheessa valkoisia kalusteita, mutta tiedä häntä. Väri sitten mulla aina kuitenkin voittaa.

The livingroom gathers white furniture now, but I don't know. I like white in principle, but I always end up liking colour more.


Alakertaan ei tule kauhean asiallista myyntitiskimeininkiä kuitenkaan. Vaihdan tuon sivuhyllyn aivan toisenlaiseen ja tuota tiskiä pitää vähän fiksata. Peililipasto voisi periaatteessa olla vaikka tässä huoneessa. Se on älyttömän iso. Mattoja en taida kuitenkaan paljon laittaa, mutta tuo tuolisohva on minusta hyvä täällä. Alakuvassa keittiön puolelle tulevat leipätiski ja kakkukaappi.

I'll take off the white shelf and use a different one here and fix the display cabinet a bit. I like the chair-bench here a lot and the mirror thing in the back too. It's rather big though. I think I will not use too many carpets in the end anyhow. In the picture below you'll see the bread display and the cake fridge in the kitchen.

Syrjähyppy - Side lining

Teehuoneen rouva tarvitsi makuuhuoneeseensa pehmeän nojatuolin, jolla lukea ja miksei vaikka virkata niitä loputtomia sängynpeittojaan... ;o). Kiitos kovasti kannustavista peittokommenteista.
Sain aika pitkän aikaa sitten Marjutilta valkealla päällystetyn, vähän repsahtaneen nojatuolin. Jo silloin ajattelin tehdä siihen ainakin irtopäällisen, mutta nyt kävin tuoliin käsiksi oikein kunnolla. Sain palaset erilleen ihan repimällä ja päädyin vain päällystämään tuolin uudelleen, en vaihtanut edes perustoppauksia, vähän vaan käsinojiin kokeilin lisäfyllinkiä. Tuo ihana vihreäpohjainen kukkakangas on kirjailtua silkkipohjaista nauhaa. Taustalla on kultakirjailtua jäykähköä silkkikangasta.

The Teahouse lady needed a padded armchair for hed bedroom to read in. Maybe that's where she crochets the endless bedspreads too... ;o). Thank you so much for the lovely comments on that.
I received a bit ripped white chair a long time ago from Marjut. I thought of making a loose cover for it, but as I noticed I could rip the parts apart I decided to cover it as parts and then glue together. I used the original padding and added just a bit for the armrests. The flower-fabric is embroidered silk ribbon. I love it and am so happy I could use it for a miniature project. I used gold-embroidered stiffer silk for the back.

Puolimatkassa - Half way through

Sen vaan sanon, että kärsivällisyys kasvaa tämän sängynpeiton kanssa (olen hyvin tietoinen, että on vielä kymmenen kertaa hitaampia hommia...). Tämä tulee teehuoneen rouvalle. Olen sahannut sängyn päädyn vuosia sitten Tuulalla. Saimme Kuopion kerhossa kokeilla hänen kuviosahaansa. Kokosin ja maalasin sen Hämeenlinnassa edellisessä asunnossa. Täällä saan kalusteen toivottavasti valmiiksi asti. Noihin päätypuihin tulee sellaiset aivan tietyt kävyt koristeiksi (niitäkin olen hakenut jo ainakin kolmeen otteeseen Tiiriön mäkkärin havuista ja hukannut) ja tuohon päätyyn haluan jotain koristetta, mutta en vielä tiedä mitä. Patjan ompelin tänään ja nyt pähkäilen, miten viimeistelisin sen. Nappeja, näkymättömiä pistoja, solmupistoja taikka vaikka solmittuja lankoja. Jotain nyt kuitenkin on siihen tulossa.

I'm learning patience with this afghan. It will be a bed spread for the tea house lady. I made the bed parts years ago in Kuopio, when the local club visited Tuula and we were allowed to use her fret saw (I hope I'm using the right word). I put the bed together and painted it in our previous home here in Hämeenlinna and maybe I'll finish it here. There's going to be cone decorations on the poles (I've picked them at least twice and lost them on the way) and I hope to decorate the end somehow too. I sew the mattress today. Haven't decided yet how to finish it, knots or buttons or invisible stitches, but there's going to be something more going on with it too.

Verhoiluharjoitus - Upholstery experiment

Sain Heleenalta aarteen, palasen vanhaa, kaunista kirjailua. Tämä on joskus palvellut kukkarona tai semmoisena pikkupikkulaukkuna. Halusin tehdä kolmesta tuolista soffapenkin teehuoneeseen. Reunimmaisten oli tarkoitus olla samanlaisia, mutta toinen osoittautui maanantaikappaleeksi ja tein siitä vähän erilaisen. Keskimmäisestä poistin etujalat, jotta tuolit mahtuivat paremmin vieretysten. No, vähän viiksottaa tuo verhoilu, vaan eikös ole silti aikas ihana. Idea on bongattu Pinterestistä, ihan oli oikeaan kokoon tehty vastaava, muistaakseni raitakankaalla verhoiltuna.

I received a wonderful gift from my friend, Heleena. It used to be a purse, lovely old and tiny embroidery. I wanted to make a sofa bench from three chairs. The ones on the sides were supposed to be the same, but one of them was a lot rougher than the other, so I carved funny little hearts there. I took the front legs off the middle one to fit the chairs better. Well, the cover is a bit here and there again, but isn't it just lovely? I got the idea from Pinterest. There was a bench like this in real size, with a stripey cover if I remember right.


Maalaan tuolit varmaankin kaikki erivärisiksi. Mietin keltaista ja kahta liilan sävyä, mutta voipi mennä johonkin toiseenkin suuntaan. Turkoosikin voisi piristää. Tuosta kankaasta saa vielä vaikka mitä. Ai että! Ihana aarre. Alakuvassa mallailin tuolia teehuoneeseen. I think I'll paint the chairs in different colours, perhaps yellow and two shades of lilac. Even turquoise might be good, more cheerful. I'll be able to use the fabric to make other things too. Such a great little treasure! In the bottom photo the waiter behind the chair by Maria, the table by Christian Lundqvist and the beautiful little purse that opens and closes from Cilla at Minst. The carpet pattern is by Maija-Leena Autio.

Se kamala lattia - The awful floor

Juu, aikalailla on viiksun vaaksun, mutta se ei haittaa ollenkaan. En missään tapauksessa tee tähän uutta vaan tästä tulee vähän persoonallinen talo lattiankin suhteen...

Ok, it's here and there and everywhere, but I really don't mind. I suppose it gives the house even more personality...


Tämä kuva on vain testausta. Kalusteet eivät todennäköisesti päädy tänne ja matotkin ovat muista taloista lainassa. Kakkujääkaappi tulee kyllä jonnekin tähän taloon. Tämmöinen testaaminen on vähän kamalaa, kun huomaa miten pieni tila on käytössä. Tuonne pitäisi vielä punkea raput ja ovi toiseen huoneeseen ja rappujen alle postimerkin kokoinen vessa. Ei hyvältä näytä ja kuitenkin kovin innostavalta, minun pikku raakileeni.

I wanted to test the space and it's small! Furniture will be different and the carpets are borrowed from the other houses. The cake display will be in this house somewhere though. I should cram in also the stairs, the door to the other room and the toilet under the stairs. Doesn't look good, but at the same time it looks so inspiring, my little sketch of a room.

Hidasta etenemistä - Slow progress

Monivärivirkkausten väriyhdistelmien muodostuminen on koukuttavaa. En silti tiedä onko järkeä tehdä kahta työtä samaan aikaaan. Meinaa mennä neliöt ja kuusikulmiot sekaisin. Nasu, kuusikulmiossa on keskiympyrässä (teen lenkille, en virkkaa ketjua) kuusi kolmen (tai vähän paksummasta langasta kahden) pylvään ryhmää, joita erottaa kolme (kaksi) ketjusilmukkaa. Toisella kerroksella teen joka väliin kaksi ryhmää ja kolmannella kulmiin kaksi ryhmää ja välille yhden. Yksinkertaista, vaikka selitettynä vähän monimutkaista. Ihan itse pähkäilin miten teen, joten niihin voi olla fiksumpikin ohje.

It's addicting to see how the combinations work with the multiple colour crocheting. Still I don't know if it is smart to make two throws at the same time. Half of the time I don't know if I'm making squares or hexagons. Nasu asked how I make the hexagons and here's how: first round has 6 groups of three (or two with a slightly thicker yarn) doubles and 3 (2) chains in between. The second round has two groups in each "in betweens" and the third round two groups in the corners and one in between the corners. Explaining is a bit complicated, but it's very simple. I figured this out myself, so there may be a smarter way of making hexagons around.


Fauniuksen keittiö sai lattialankut ja paneelin, jonka myös maalasin. Paneeli on bambutabletista. Lattiaan suunnittelen ruutuja, mutta toisaalta tekisi mieleni tehdä joku vähän monimutkaisempikin maalaushomma. Katsotaan mitä loppujen lopuksi tapahtuu. Tykkään kovasti keittiön tapetista, mutta tuo kiilto vähän ärsyttää. Tapetti on skräppäyspaperia.

Faunius kitchen got floorboards and panelling, that I painted too. I'm thinking of painting checkpattern on the floor, but then again I would like to make a bit more intricate pattern. We'll see which idea wins. I like the wallpaper very much, but dislike the sheen. It's scrapping paper.


Teehuoneen katto sai vähän maalausta ja alakerran lattiaan olen liimaillut pätkiä. Se on ihan fiasko, oikeasti, olisi pitänyt mitata paremmin ja merkitä lattialle apuviivat. Ei se silti haittaa. Sinne voi laittaa sitten vaikka mattoja pahimpiin paikkoihin. Kuvaan, kunhan saan sen valmiiksi.

The Tearoom roof got painted and I've glued most of the parquet downstairs. It's a total fiasco, I should have measured the pieces more carefully and mark lines on the floor to make it better. I don't mind anyway. I'll put carpets on the worst spots. I'll photograph it when it's done.

Teehuonetta - Teahouse for a change

Katto on suomutettu ja näyttää jo nyt aika kivalta. Mietiskelen hiljalleen talon ulkopuolen väritystä ja alan kallistua vaaleanpunaiseen vihreillä, valkoisilla ja ehkä vähän muunkin värisillä mausteilla. Tästä taitaa tulla vähän kirjavampi kuin aiemmista taloista. Vaikea on myös tehdä lopullinen päätös, että laudoitanko vai rappaanko. Laudoitus on tällä hetkellä vahvoilla.

The roof tiles are in place and I like the messy effect they give to the house. I'm thinking about the colours of the outside think it's going to be pink with green, white and maybe some other colour accents. I think this house wants to have more colour than the previous houses I've made. It's also a bit difficult to decide whether to use boarding or plaster on the walls. Boarding I think.


Seuraava vaihe taitaa kuitenkin olla alakerran lattian palapeli. Leikkaan bambutabletista saaduista puista hiljalleen paloja ja sitten vaan liimaushommiin. Pitää kuitenkin tehdä vielä ovi tuolle vasemmalle sivuseinustalle. Sinne tulee pieni siipi.

The next stage seems to be the puzzle of the tearoom floor. I use bamboo placemats and cut the strips into little pieces and glue it on the floor. But first I need to cut an opening to the left side wall. There's going to be another room there.

Kattoa laittamassa - Fixing the roof

Viikon aikana on syntynyt peittoa hiljalleen pala palalta. Luulen, että jätän sen tälläiseksi pieneksi, jonka voi laskostaa jollekin sohvalle. Tämä kaunotar odottaa uutta verhoilua melko trendikkäästi tilkuista... Tilkkusohva on ollut ajatuksissani jo pitkään. Jospa aloitan sitten tästä.

I've crocheted the blanket slowly in the evenings this week, square by square. I think I'll finish it like this as a small blanket I can easily drape on a chair or a sofa. This beauty waits for the new upholstery. I'm thinking patchwork... I've wanted a patchwork sofa for a long time and this might be a good way to start experimenting.

There's still some work to be done, but the new roof changes the look of the house quite a lot.

Uutta ja vanhaa laatoitusta - tiling old and tiling new

Oo, Pirtissä on vihdoin hella ja hellan takana laatat. Yhdistin pienehköä keramiikkamosaiikkia ja Tiinan tekemiä ankka- ja kasvilaattoja. Tykkään kovasti. Hella on Hungarian miniaturesista. Hän tekee aivan mielettömiä massakasviksia ja hedelmiä. Ne kirsikat...

There's finally a stove in Pirtti and the tiles behind the stove. I combined mosaic-tiles with Tiina's duck and plant tiles. I like this so much. The stove I bought from Hungarian miniatures. She makes the most amazing polymer clay vegetables and fruit. The cherries...


Tarun kukkalaatat tulevat pesualtaan taakse, mutta tämä allas on vain näön vuoksi. Ajattelin yrittää tehdä altaan itse ja liittää sen jonkinlaiseen kaappiin, jotta saadaan roskikset piiloon. Kyllä on lattia miljoona kertaa parempi nyt, kun sain sen saumattua.

Taru's flower tiles are behind the sink. I'll try to make a new (old) sink and a cupboard under it to hide the trashcan and such. I like the floor so much more now as I finally grouted it.


Postilaatikkokin sai naulansa. Kyllä meidän kelpaa.

Even the mailbox got the nail and hangs by the door. So nice to get things done.


Tässä on sitten uusi tönö sellaisena kuin se oli vielä tiistaina. Nyt se on vähän eri näköinen. Irrotin kaikki ikkunat ja naurettavan pienen oven, sahasin nuo kattoikkunajutskat yläosastaan viistoon, lisäsin katon alle vielä riman verran leveyttä ja pyöristin katon alaosan paperimassalla. Siihen tulee sitten massan kuivuttua käpy-jätskitikku-sälä-kuorrutus.

Here is the new house as it was on Tuesday. Now it looks a bit different. I removed all the windows and the door (which is way too small, like a gnome door), sawed the roof-window thingies tops in diagonal, added some width under the roof and rounded the bottom of the roof with papier mache. I'll add fircone scales and ice-cream stick ends and stuff to make the roof more interesting.


Täälläkin pääsin laatoittamaan. Teehuoneen keittiöön tuli keramiikkaa ja lasilaattaa periaatteella kaapista löytynyttä...

This will be the tearoom kitchen. I combined ceramic and glass tiles. Took something I found in my stashes... bottomless stashes...

Teehuonemietteitä - Tea room thoughts

Ei mitään uutta minirintamalla. Ainakaan en saa itse tehdyksi oikein mitään. Kaivelen laatikoita ja kauhistelen tavaran määrää vaikkakin salaa oikein tyytyväisenä. Laitoin kukkia maljakoihin ja nyt kakkuja teehuoneen vitriineihin. Tehdäkö talo vaiko laatikko vain?

Nothing new going on. I cannot seem to get anything done in miniatures at the moment. I go through the boxes and wonder how come I have this much stuff, feeling a bit guilty and happy at the same time. I put flowers to various vases and now cakes on display. I'm slowly planning the tea room. To make a house or not to make? To make a roombox or not to make?



Kaivelin yhdestä laatikosta Wooperin mukeja ja lautasia. Tuli kova ikävä. Nämä sopivat väritykseltään ajatuksiini aivan täydellisesti.

I found mugs and plates made by Wooper, a friend, who passed away about a year ago. I've collected these for the tea house even before I knew I was going to make one. The colours are just perfect for the idea I have in my head. I miss her.

Isoja keksejä

Monimutkaisia domino-tyyppisiä keksejä rakentamassa. Nämä ovat ihan liian isoja, mutta eikös tämmöisiä kämmenenkokoisia ole jätskiversiona? Luulenpa, että teehuoneen rouva tarjoaa näitä oman reseptinsä mukaan tekemällä ja täyttämällä itse.

I'm practising making oreo-type cookies. These are way too big, but isn't there ice cream filled version that is about the size of one's palm? I think these are self-made by the lady of the tea-room.

Iloa ja surua - Joy and sadness

Meillä on vähän suruaika menossa, kun meidän rakas lemmikkimme Otso-kissa jouduttiin lopettamaan männäviikolla. Yritin maalata muotokuvaa hurmaavasta kissaherrasta, mutta ei siitä oikein näköistä tullut. Tuollainen hymyileväinen Otso kyllä oli. Tykkäsi kovasti ruuasta ja meistä. Ihana kissa.

Sohva majaili tovin jos toisenkin tullissa odottamassa, mutta tänään nappasin pyörän käyttöön ja porhalsin hakemaan sen kotiin. Aivan hieno! Suunnittelen itsekin tekeväni topattuja tuoleja ja sohvia lähitulevaisuudessa, mutta tämä oli niin sopiva teehuoneelle, että pyysin saada ostaa sen Jodyltä. Tämä oli proto, mutta minulle ja teehuoneen rouvalle oikein mieluisa.

It's a bit sad here now. Our beloved cat Otso had to be put to sleep last week. I tried to paint a portrait of him, but there's not much of a resemblance. He was a smiling cat like that, gentle and smart. Loved food. Loved us. Perfect little boy he was.

The lovely couch is made by Jody. It spent quite a while at the customs, but today I took my bike and rode there in the spring sunshine and it was fun. I'm going to try to make upholstered chairs myself too, but this one was just perfect to both me and the lady of the teahouse. This was sort of a prototype, but Jody agreed to sell it to me, so thank you very much! There are some other sofas at Jody's Etsy shop.

Kokosin myös teehuoneeseen tulevaa tavaraa omaan laatikkoonsa, jotta kaaos pöydällä ja hyllyllä tulisi vähän hallittavammaksi. Koreaa ja kukertavaa piisaa...

I also collected things for the tea-house and put it in a box for now to clear some of the chaos on my desk and shelf. I'm going to miss seeing the teapots all the time...

Teetä kahdelle - Tea for two

Pakko leikkiä! Kahvilan konsepti alkaa selkiytyä. Nimeksi tulee kaiketi Teetä kahdelle (tai useammallekin, yksinkin saa, mutta silloin ei saa teepannua pöytäänsä). Siellä tosiaan voi tilata erilaisista teelaaduista ja kauheasta läjästä leivonnaisia ja leiriytyä pöytäänsä koko iltapäiväksi lukemaan ja juttelemaan ja tekemään käsitöitä ja katsomaan kaunista puistomaisemaa. Tämä on loistavaa. Keksin siis samalla valtavan hienon tekosyyn kerätä vieläkin enemmän upeita teepannuja, koska pannuja on oltava ainakin yhtä monta kuin pöytää ;o). Tämä on vain häthätää koottu ideakuva, pöytä on liian pieni (Lundby), liina äidin kirpparilta löytämä, maljakot ja teepannu Joycelta (Mostly Art), istuintyynyt Liisalta, kirjattu tyyny Larissalta, kuvatyyny ja matto Lissulta, kupit ja lautaset Jaanalta ja donitsi Mirjalta.

I just have to play! The idea of the cafe is getting clearer. I guess I'll call it Tea for Two (or more and you can come alone too, but then you will not get the teapot on your table). There will be lots of different kinds of tea and some coffee too and enormous amounts of pastries. You can come and stay for the whole afternoon reading and talking and making something (like knitting the awful socks maybe...) and watch the beautiful park outside. I have now the perfect excuse to collect even more wonderful teapots, because there has to be at least as many as there are tables ;o).
