Kuvia ja vähän juttujakin - Photos and some stories

Kuvat on otettu sieltä-täältä, museoista lähinnä. Photos are from here and there, mainly the museums.

Pollock's Toy Museum

We admired Chris Malcolmson's unbelievably beautiful marquetry furniture at the festival. He told us very kindly about the wood he uses and how he makes the fabulous pieces. The colours of the patterns come from different kinds of wood, there's no colouring going on here and he makes the metal parts too and it shows. The furniture were just perfect. There was this fabulous piece of furniture (my english fails me now, sorry) for writing with many drawers and cabinets and there were keys in front of it in the display-case. We wondered that someone has left the keys there and were told that the locks actually work and the keys turn the locks. I said, that it looks like it has a hidden drawer somewhere and there were several! Chris was kind enough to show us and pressing a tiny piece there were two drawers coming out of the sides of the furniture like boing! and then there were a couple of others too. It was such a magical piece of art. I'm so happy to have seen it and the flower-tables too.

The Luggage Ladyllä oli aivan mahtavia nahkatöitä todella monissa upeissa väreissä. Ihastelimme niiden pintaa, nahka tuntui pehmeältä ja ylelliseltä ja saimme kuulla hänen käyttävän hansikasnahkaa töissään. Kokonainen vuota käytetään varsin tarkkaan keskikohdan paksummista osista aina reunojen ohuisiin kohtiin joista kaikista saa tietyn tuotteen parhaiten.

The Luggage Lady had wonderful things made of vast rainbow of beautiful colours. We admired the luxurious softness of the leather and she told us she uses glove-leather for her pieces. The whole skin is used, thicker centrepart is suitable for sturdier pieces and the thinner sides for the more delicate pieces. Small scraps are used for small things like cases for coins and eye-glasses. They were just great, and there were of course glasses that can be removed with lenses and all.

Pollock's Toy Museum - kaksi nukkea, iloinen ja surullinen - two dolls, a happy one and a sad one

Taru noticed James Carrington, who was just visiting the festival. I decided to be a bit silly and ask him for his autograph for my festival-brochure. He is such a charming person and he was very kind to me and looked like a star. I adore his dolls and his book about doll-making has been very helpful and informative to me. I find it even more important that he has played an important role in opening the expression in miniatures to stronger and more personal direction. it was a special moment for me to meet him in person and I have the kind note he wrote to remember it by. Lucky me!

Now if I really think of things I was not thrilled about at the festival, it was the dolls. I think I expected them to be even better. I may be so in love with Taru's dolls that I might be a little partial in my judgement, but I found that it was so easy to be thrilled of many other things, but not the dolls. Doll's dolls were just marvelous on the other hand.

Mun myyntitaidot on aika puutteelliset.

There were no felt-makers in the festival. Animals tended to be hard, although one seller sold furred animals. At least one had fine pipe-cleaner-animals. I've made these, but in a very different style. I'm slowly and quietly thinking of building a net-store and starting to try to sell internationally. It's a bit intimidating idea. My selling-skills are not that good.

Koru on Mostly Artilta - Me and an ice-cream that was better than I remembered. The scarabee-pendant is from Mostly Art.

Olet saanut hyviä kuvia M of Childhoodista - omani eivät ollet onnistuneita.

Everything is so wonderful! Thank you so much for your writing and pictures, it's like traveling along with you, to places I may never get to see myself. I just love that you have done this for all of us to enjoy too! ♥

I also would like to thank you for writing in English. I have used the translater some, but it is so easy to just read this way.
